How many people have unused but expired Gift Cards? I discovered we had £40 Everyman and £20 Fenwick expired cards. I tried to get both organisations to extend but they  refused.

I realise my cards are well expired and I also realise that the law allows Expiry Dates on Gift cards so long as the conditions are clear on purchase but it got me thinking.  The practice of placing Expiry Dates on Gift Cards is insidious.

The fact that a company can say 'give me your money but if you don't exchange it for goods by a certain time we will keep it even though we have provided nothing' should not be allowed.

This Post is not anti-Gift Cards but anti-Expiry Dates and it is time to change the law!  Am I alone on this?

So you think they should hold an indefinite and ever increasing liability on their balance sheet for all those lost and unwanted giftcards that were issued 20 years ago just in case someone one day finds it and decides to spend it?
