Anyone have a solution to a dogs stinky breath please

My dogs breath is awful. The groomer he used to go to always did his teeth but she closed her shop and his new groomer does not do them. If I try to get anywhere near to try to clean them he almost takes my hand off although the previous groomer had no trouble getting him to co-operate.

He gets decent food and I give him the dental sticks but the last couple of weeks he has ponged, embarrassingly so!

Any suggestions please as to what I can try. I know I could go to a different groomer but he is happy with the one he goes to and it seems a bit cheeky to go to another one and just ask for his teeth to be done when I'm not using them for grooming.

It would be worth letting your vet have a look at your dog as he might need some extractions, ours did! We also clean our dog’s teeth  with virbac toothpaste (poultry flavoured!) and an electric toothbrush, he tolerates this much better than a manual one.

Dental check at the vet. It might be that he has work that needs doing, that was the case with my dogs breath don’t particularly stinky. He ended up needing some teeth out.
Will he eat dental chews or the nylabond type things that are meant to be good for teeth?

Thanks for the replies. Yes he does have dental sticks.

I did have him at the vet this week for something unrelated to his teeth and did mention it to the vet but he was  quite vague really. He had a look at his teeth and just said that if it doesnt get better he could do some xrays to see if dental work was required.

I will give it a go with an electric brush though and see if that does any better.

If he doesn't like you near his teeth then an electric brush is really going to freak him out, You need an ordinary brush or a finger brush to start with.
The only other  thing that comes to mind is if he might be constipated?

Another thing that's possible is anal glands need expressing. I know it's odd but I had a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and he always had problems with the rear end but it would make the front end stink when they needed doing!
