Could you not do a full transfer to a more modern/flexible platform if you had this issue?

For me, that would be the logical decision.  Unless there are any contractual reasons to remain (e.g. protected tax free cash, guaranteed minimum growth rates etc) then if the provider doesn't offer what you need, then move it to a provider that does.
