Don't employers now have access to HMRC systems as they feed information directly to them? If so, won't they be able to see payments from previous employment?DullGreyGuy said:
You can just fill in the "starter checklist" (the thing that replaced the P46) rather than giving the P45TELLIT01 said:Your new employer will need your P45 and that will show the employers name. Hiding employment info isn't easy.

To the best of my knowledge they wouldnt be able to see who the employer was, it'd be hard to see the necessity of that to justify the sharing of personal data... if it was close to financial year end then there may be issues but that's equally a problem for the P46TELLIT01 said:

I've never looked, but if I don't get a P45 from a new starter, I go with the new starter declaration. After a while, I may get a new tax code from HMRC, which will take the previous earnings into account, but I don't know who the previous employer is, nor whether it's previous earnings or some other source of taxable income which has triggered it.TELLIT01 said:

I never see the previous employer details unless I see the P45.
But one word of caution if you leave it off: it's easy to forget you didn't declare it. If you then say "when I worked at XYZ" there's always the risk of someone going "I didn't know you worked there". Or you bump into someone from XYZ and news gets out that way. That puts you at high risk of being dismissed for dishonesty.Signature removed for peace of mind0
