Notice of Enforcement letter from o2. What are my options?

Options
Hi,

Have fallen into financial struggles recently, and my monthly payments (for phone and tablet) have fallen behind with o2 (they really are quite a ruthless company).

They sent a Default Notice letter initially, but it was such a nightmare trying to get through to someone I gave up.

Have just been issued with a Notice of Enforcement letter now which has ramped my anxiety levels right up as with the phone I was only early into a 36 month contract so I'm really panicking on having to now pay that device & line rental for a really long remaining period :(

What are my options moving forward with this?

Really appreciate your valued advice.

Thanks

What does the letter say? Eg. pay by X date or we will disconnect you, pay by X date or we will take enforcement action? Have they placed the missed payments and default on your credit reports?

The first step is usually disconnection, then court action to recover money owed, they may be willing to agree a settlement figure, but that is far from guaranteed.

I would recommend you post a SOA (Statement of Account) and let some of excellent people on here help you, they can work out what you can cut back on, what costs you can save and what you can do with the issues with your finances, you may not feel you can find a way out of your current situation, but often there are ways to make things a lot easier. Don't give up trying to call O2. It's worth holding the line for the wait.

I had horrible letters and slightly less horrible emails off them about totally disconnecting me ( outgoing calls had already been cut off )

So I eventually called them hoping to stop the disconnection with a promise to pay... and they were so nice. They accepted that I'd pay in a week and offered ( without me asking ) to restore my outgoing calls and Internet on the spot. Of course, I can't not fulfill that promise to pay.

All that means is they will disconnect your service if you don`t pay by a certain date.

If you can`t pay, just put a PAYG sim in your phone, and use your tablet on WIFI only, or again, a PAYG sim card.

They only block the sim, not the actual product.

If you can get through to them and make arrangements, all well and good, if you can`t they will just assign the debt to a collector whom you will be able to repay monthly online at an affordable rate, so no real issues here.

It would appear as a default on your credit file though.

There will be a hefty termination fee as you are near the start of a 36-month contract.

The good news is that they do not take court action but sell the debt on at the inflated figure. The buyer buys at a discount, so if you can't afford this, and a PAYG sim cuts your spend, then run with it and think about a payment arrangement with whoever buys it.

The earlier suggestion of a soa is good as it sounds like you are struggling

The good news is if its a 36 month agreement on the tab and phone, it's o2 refresh. This means that you will only need to pay off the device plan not the airtime (sim card plan) as termination fees. I would echo that it's worth speaking to the payment managenent team, persevere on the phone. You will get through and they are very helpful.

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
