Money being demanded for a loan I don’t know about

I have received numerous emails to an email address I rarely use demanding money for a debt I supposedly owe. The email comes from a company called ACI who say they bought a debt of mine from another company. As far as I’m aware, I am debt free. I owe nothing. Quite possibly a genuine company but the messages might not be - could be a scammer impersonating the company to stir up concern and obtain information on individuals. Even the response "I have no debt" might be helpful to a scammer.
