Best time of year to retire?

Whenever you have booked that "celebrate retirement" holiday for.

1st June as you get paid for the 4 Easter and May Bank holidays (5 this and last year) with only one more before Christmas. Also, depending on your salary, April and May could give you the minimum amount of NI contributions for a state pension qualifying year. Finally, the school half term break will be ending giving you all of June to enjoy a nice cheap / quiet holiday.4

Funnily enough I was also thinking of 1st June as my retirement date in whichever year I choose to go, but not necessarily for that reason - it's a good point about the bank holidays though.pensionpawn said:1st June as you get paid for the 4 Easter and May Bank holidays (5 this and last year) with only one more before Christmas. (Not me but parents) End of September this year is their intention - because they both can't face another winter of doing the commute in the dark/rain etc - figured I'd throw it into the ring as an alternative (non financial) reason
Aim:12mth Emergency Fund -> £14264/£17076 (83%) Aim 2: Mortgage Overpayment -> Paused until other aim fulfilled.2 -
That was OH’s thinking, but as his employer had to agree he didn’t have a choice of when, just ‘this year’ instead of ‘next year’ but it was one less Winter on the M62 at silly o’clock.Kerreh said:(Not me but parents) End of September this year is their intention - because they both can't face another winter of doing the commute in the dark/rain etc - figured I'd throw it into the ring as an alternative (non financial) reason

Best time of the year to retire? In my case immediately after I dropped a big fatty that was going to cause a big stink on the project I was working on. Sorry fellas, but you're going to need a bigger pump. Adiós......
Five years on, best day of my life.....3
