If you get a cheap run around, your NCB will be costing you the price of the car, the extra insurance, maintenance, MOTs, road tax etc.
Suddenly you will be spending what, maybe £500+ a year for that NCB? Doesn't seem such a good deal.
In my experience, a colleague going from a company car to a personal car was still able to contact the company car insurance firm and get a letter to prove they didn't make claims, and their new insurers accepted that. So you should be able to do the same, or at worst, not be spending more than all the extra hundreds of pounds as per my logic above.
You can call the insurer now if you are that worried, and ask them what they'll do in a letter when you no longer have a company car and need personal insurance. Hopefully they'll give you reassurance.
I hope this works out as I think this could be a big saving on your potential spend.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -

In all honesty I didn't think of it that way. I have no intention of changing jobs and my work requires a vehicle so you are right and would be wasting money if I got myself a car when I have a company vehicle to use.
Great advice there.Littlewoods £0/£750

I agree it is not worth buying a car just to retain a NCB. The costs of buying and running it would far outweigh the discount on future insurance. When my husband retired after having a company car for many years he got a letter from the company insurers to claim a NCB on his own car.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
