State pension thoughts please

Hi, my sister is 66 in Aug and her forecast for her state pension tells her £203.22 a week. She has 49 years of full contributions

She then got a letter in today saying £789.64 every four weeks .

Any ideas why not the full pension

Many thanks

    Does it say that?

Or is that just the first payment?

What is the COPE shown on her state pension forecast?

Has she actually obtained a state pension forecast?

    https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pension

    See example here

does have a sppa nhs pension

    Then she has a COPE.

    Yes she has the forecast and it states ....203.23 a week , 883.69 a month , 10,604.25 a year

No gaps in her 49 years of contributions

So the letter came in yesterday telling her the date early August 2023 they'll be starting to pay her pension and it states she'll be getting 789.64 a month

    Thanks for your help

On the forecast does it say “you cannot improve your forecast any further”?

you need to also look at what it says below the green box to get the full detail

You really need to post up exactly what the forecast states, all the figures and texts and not just the top line amount, because £789.64 / 4 = £197.41 and is £5.82, or one year, short of £203.23.  It looks like she may have misread her forecast.

Thank you I'll get more details if she has it and post . I'm rubbish at IT , was trying to attach the letters etc but couldn't work out how to !

She would have had more than 35 NI qualifying years at 5/4/16.

On 6.4.16, (inception of New State Pension) two calculations were done for her to establish her "starting amount" for NSP.

    Old Rules

NIQY/30 x £119.30 (Full Basic SP) + (Additional State Pension - Deduction for Contracting Out)

    In her case

£119.30 + (Additional SP - Deduction for Contracting Out).

    New Rules

    (NIQY/35 x £155.65) - Contracted Out Pension Equivalent.

    In her case

    £155.65 - COPE.

Her starting amount was the higher of the two,

If (as appears to be the case), she was in a contracted out pension scheme for much (the whole?) of her working life ( the NHSPS was contracted out  between 1978 and 2016), the COPE would have been high so that her Starting Amount would have been given by the old rules calculation.

It would have been less than a full NSP but she had a number of years from 6/4/16 up to 5/4/23 in which she could make contributions /receive credits to bring her up to an amount equal to (but not exceeding) a full NSP.

What was shown on her forecast under

    Estimate to 5/4/22?
