What colour was the Flying Scotsman painted by British Rail?
Green 🚂
Pink
Pink
Red
I have sent them a message asking for clarification of the question as BR actually painted it Blue in 1949 (converted from LNER Apple Green) but converted it to it's more famous BR Green in 1954.
Question updated so answer is now Green

I wasn't certain - both Wikipedia and the National Railway Museum agree with Boots - Express Blue form 1949 to 1954 then BR Brunswick Green afterwards. All of the stamps show a green livery so I'd suspect that's the answer they want.I need to think of something new here...9

In fact British Rail never used a shade of green called Brunswick Green and their official name for the shade they used, which they mixed themselves, was actually Dark Green. This commonly used misnomer is thought to have arisen from later modelling when Humbrol Brunswick Green was the nearest representation available for the original BR Green and for GWR Loco Green.NBLondon said:I wasn't certain - both Wikipedia and the National Railway Museum agree with Boots - Express Blue form 1949 to 1954 then BR Brunswick Green afterwards. It is not completely clear from pictures of the stamps what shade of green they are in. At least one looks as if it may be in the lighter Apple Green from LNER colouring which is the colour that Alan Peglar had it painted in when he acquired it in 1963. As far as I can ascertain, it then stayed in Apple Green until it's major overhaul from 2006 after which it reappeared in BR Green in 2016.
I too think that the required answer for the competition was intended to be Green but as it was Blue for 5 years with BR, that COULD be the answer. Hopefully they will clarify.Bob11 -
I have a copy (coincidentally) of the magazine - and the article there gives the colour history as well - LNER Green to Black to Blue to BR Green. So if the question was what colour did BR first paint the loco then Blue would be correct.
These are stamp fans not steam fans!I need to think of something new here...10 -
The question has now changed: https://www.allaboutstamps.co.uk/competitions/win-flying-scotsman-stamps/
To offer the options Green, Pink, Red. So Green is the only valid answer there.I need to think of something new here...13 -
