My brother in law has worked for a company for over 25 years at business premises which were just open office hours and not on BHs or weekends.  Since late August 2022 the premises are now open every day including bank holidays and weekends but BIL has still only worked office hours since then and if a bank holiday has fallen on the days he works he has not been required to work - this included the BH for the Queen's Funeral, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

BIL’s manager has now said he needs to work bank holidays if they fall on his working days. He doesn’t mind this but he has something booked for the next BH on 1 May so is unable to cover that one.

I understand that the business premises are now open every day/night but BIL has carried on not working bank holidays since last August so is this a change of contract terms and should he have been given more notice.

Any advice you could give that I could pass to him would be very much appreciated.

Just to clarify, BIL has not been asked to work bank holidays before now even though the premises have been open day/night since August 2022.
