Ad-hoc Self Assessment leading to HMRC request in following years

I have just received notification from HMRC to file a Self- Assessment for 22/23.
As a BR taxpayer with Occupational Pension as my sole income I have not previously been required to do a Self-Assessment. However, I did file a Self-Assessment for 21/22 in order to pay CGT tax. I do not owe any CGT for 22/23 so did not intend to file a return for last year. I can only therefore assume that a trigger has been set on my tax profile due to my declaration the previous year.
Is there a process to notify HMRC in order to avoid further Self-Assessments or do I now need to file for as long as HMRC request completion?
