Can I claim my Indefinite Leave to remain application as an expense in my Self Assessment?

Just paid a whopping £2404 for my application having completed the 10 year route. Any idea whether I can claim this as an expense? I would not be able to continue my self employment business in the UK without this. Also would I be able to claim commute expense to the appointment and back and the Citizenship Test fee and commute? Many thanks!

I think this would fail the deductibility test because there is a duality of purpose (choosing to live here for personal as well as work reasons). If an employee is reimbursed for them, the employer must treat them as earnings and deduct PAYE and NIC.

No. It's not incured wholly in connection with your employment. It's also connected with your personal life; you need it for other purposes as well as your business. Sorry.

It's the same with the travel to appointment and Citizenship Test, and the test fee. These are only require by your application for indefinite leave to remain, not your business.

Congratulations on completing the 10 year route! It's a slog, and expensive, but it should be worth it in the end.
