Saying where else you are interviewing?

Options
Hi,

What does any one think about revealing where else you are applying? It came up in an interview I had earlier today and now I'm doing the whole debating if I should have said.

I'm really taken with becoming a part time GP receptionist (appreciate it is a very hard job right now but a place that has incoming calls and people contact so it appeals and I thought I could transfer skills from my hotel receptionist days) today was my interview at a second practice and I got the question what or where else have you applied so I started talking about the first practice I went for. I foolishly didn't ask for feedback from practice one as they told me on entering the room it was a scored interview and when they called to say you have been unsuccessful they just said they couldn't make me an offer, whereas, this one today was more of a chat and couple of patient senarios put to me. I liked this second practice more then I thought I would and was so pleased and relived to see others with disabilities working there.

Also, does anyone know what a Care Co-ordinator for a GP practice does? just they mentioned this role was coming up and all unsuccessful applicants at the practice today could stand a chance of being put forward for this role too.

That's really a question you should have asked at the time, but I appreciate that it's easy to be caught off guard when something unexpected pops up during the interview.  Your lack of questions about that post may have them thinking you wouldn't be interested.  You might think about giving them a call, particularly if you have the name of the person who interviewed you, to let them know that the alternative job may be of interest and ask if they have a job description available.
With regard to being asked about other job interviews you have lined up/attended I would be inclined to say you have been applying for other jobs but would prefer not to say which jobs.

Not sure I like that question being asked but as it's been asked I might reply with a "similar places to this.  I want to ensure I get to meet a variety of people in what I think will be a very interesting environment.  I  think that's the best way to ensure I find the best match for me."

Don't name names. Stick to a generic reply as suggested above. Local GP practices all talk to each other, and it is unlikely to enhance your chances if there's a conversation between one which has turned you down and one thinking of making you an offer (or if pay rates are very different and this could be used as a bargaining chip to beat down your starting salary).
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

The level of detail is for you to decide how much to share.  The prospective GP employer may have been trying to assess how committed you are to the new industry sector or whether it is just an 'also ran' opportunity and you will be more likely to take another hotel job.

Depends who's asking... if it's a recruitment agency, sure as hell dont tell them. You say XYZ is hiring an ABC then as soon as they put the phone down to you they'll be trying to contact XYZ saying they've two amazing ABCs on their books and would love to send their CVs across to them... you are generating competition for yourself.

Employer's asking... it's a bit of poor question... some like to hear that a small number of others are interested in you, similarly that you are only applying to similar roles. Imagine your answer was that you've got another interview as a receptionist for £25k but also a junior project manager role for £45k. Firstly it points that your interests aren't in reception and secondly they'll be outbid for you if you land the junior PM role.
