As you rate songs you rate them out of ten this contibutes to your accuracy its a hard thing to explain but your accuracy is one of the factors that will help you go up in stars

3 - Scout ratings
• Scouts are automatically rated between 1 - 5 stars
• These star ratings are automatically calculated and take into account:
o The length of each review left by the Scout
o How close each score on each track is to the average score
given by all other Scouts who have reviewed the same track
o The total number of reviews the Scout has carried out
o Whether the Scout has tipped an Artist that ultimately secures
financing
• The more stars you have the more money you earn per review
• The more stars you have the more influential your review will be in
getting Artists to the Showcase (ratings from the best Scouts carry
more weight than reviews from lower rated Scouts)
• Ratings can and do go up and down. If you scout a genre you don’t
properly understand you may damage your rating
4 - How to improve your Scout rating
• Score according to what you believe other people will score based on
potential commercial viability/popular appeal of each track
• Don’t let your personal like/dislike cloud what you feel may actually be
a successful track - and score accordingly
• Give good and full feedback – a few sentences
• Every lazy/short/poorly considered review will adversely impact your
rating (yes, we do read every review)Debt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:

Wel. I'm enjoying doing this, Joined Xmas and have now hit 3 stars. I remained a 1 star scout for nearly all that time then went up to 3 stars and then fell back to 2 for 1 day. Next day, back up to 3 stars. I've come to the conclusion that to get more stars you need 1) To write a fairly detailed review. Mine started at 3-4 lines, they are now more like 4-10 lines. I've also found that if my accuracy fell below 85% I lost a star. What I was doing wrong was giving marks accross the full range from 0-10 and everything in between. I now try to mark more conservatively. I tend to think for the average stuff 4-6 and the poor material 3, good stuff, 7. I still cant resist dishing out the odd 0, 1 and 10 but these will hit your accuracy rating - has to, because its an average! As some will like a track and some will loathe the same track, unless its phenomenaly awful or spectactularly good its going to average out somewhere close to 5. Indeed, my average score is currently 5.
All Genres 2 is doing my head in though. I can only face it in small blocks while for British bands I could happily listen for an hour or two. The material on All Genrers 2 is so bizarre and specialist that I'm struggling for how to write anything constructive. I try and find something good to say as much as I can but some of these tracks are frankly dire - How do you tell them that their music stinks constructively? I have a very wide taste in music but so far having heard nearly 100 tracks from All Genres 2, I've managed to put only 1 on my watch list and I've tipped nothing. I'm beginning to wonder if this is how it will be throughout or have I just been unlucky? At this rate my average is going to be devastated, not much has been worth 5 or 6! One song I just sat and laughed until I cried - I dont think it was meant to be comical. It was just so unspeakably terrible - and bare in mind that I have a collection of song that I consider to be so bad they are good (e.g Klennex "Heidei Head" or the Mekons "Never been in a Riot"), I nearly wet myself. It often takes me much longer than the song just to know where to start.
I think it will pay to listen to the song and give a fair review of the whole song. It does not take that much longer, unless its just awful, in which case dont wait! All I know is that if I was doing this for 3p a track I might lose the will to live within this particular scout room. At least now I'm up to 9p (woo) I feel a little better about it.0 -
