NHS AVC vs SIPP

Hi All
Does anyone have any views on this or any useful insight on NHS AVC?
As far as I can tell there's nothing particularly special/ worthwhile about either of the NHS AVC schemes in comparison to a SIPP? I could be completely wrong though!
Anyone disagree or have any thoughts your like to share?
Appreciate your input.

The NHS AVC isnt great. They say they have negotiated them commission-free but commission hasn't existed for over a decade on the retail market either. This is because their product is so old, it pre-dates 2006.
With the NHS, its usually a case of comparing the additional pension, ERRBO or added years with the retail individual pensions (which may or may not be SIPPs) and ruling out the AVC which is the weakest option.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.1 -
Thanks @dunstonh
That chimes with what I had found.
ERRBO has been considered but unlikely to go down that route.
Point about actual sipp, vs sipp marketing name, noted

Do you not save on tax when you pay into a NHS AVC via salary?Nurse striving for financial freedom0

If contributions are paid via the net pay method and not RAS then yes. Assuming tax would have been due without the pension contributions being made.MFW2026 said:Do you not save on tax when you pay into a NHS AVC via salary?
