Help with moving and avoiding mortgage??

Hi
I am new to this forum so any advice would be great please. Husband and I just in our 50s (53/51). Around 34k left on our mortgage, paying off more to get it shorter. Looking at a change of life and new home but where we want to be is slightly more expensive and so the house are more than what we are likely to get for ours. I 'think' (not had it valued yet), there will be a deficit of around 50k. We have savings but want to keep those - happy to use some towards to the house/moving fees. Will be continuing work.
My question is do we increase the mortgage or get a loan?? Husband really wants to be mortgage free (as do I) but i feel the life change will be more important.
thanks
Dawn
