Hi, if there is an HR department (it sounds like a big place, so there should be) and you are happy with your job in every other aspect (although salary is a main incentive, obviously) then could you have a chat with someone in HR? That is, you would be speaking to someone other than your direct manager and someone who has a knowledge of how things work there. Tell them how you feel and what has been going on. I guess there isn't a union.fletcher1985 said:i just requested a copy of my contract and it says im a production operative and a general supervisor. so my understanding is that my job is both and i can say i dont want to do the general supervisor job any more would anyone agree.

Sometimes having the opportunity to discuss something and attempting to negotiate a better deal for yourself does work. That is better, I think, than having a knee jerk reaction and just leaving - I know you'll want to get another job first, of course. Don't say "I don't want to do this any more", ask if you can sit down and speak sensibly with someone about the duties you are being expected to do for pitiful pay. Hopefully they wouldn't just turn around and fire you for asking if you can talk about your job.
I don't blame you for looking for other jobs and think that the salaries you are all paid are dreadful. I do hope that you manage to get either sorted out or a new position very soon.
But it doesn't hurt just to ask someone in authority (that is, someone with more authority than your line manager) if you can have a discussion about your position and, more importantly, pay, in the first instance. If it doesn't work out, then at least you'll have tried. You might want them to give you a good reference for your next job, too, so it'd be worth it, if you do decide to leave, to leave on a positive note.

Please remember that (broadly speaking) HR are there for the employer rather then then employee.MalMonroe said:

I think I'd be careful there if I were you. Similar to what has already been said you may find that you inadvertently displace yourself if you go down that route! You will see that your contract also states that you can be expected to undertake duties that you are reasonably requested to (or wording similar). Now whilst that doesn't mean if you're a janitor, say, in the NHS you can be asked to perform open heart surgery (that would obviously be unreasonable) but if you are discharging duties that are broadly similar to what might be expected and/or you have been for some time, then you would be well advised to continue to do so.fletcher1985 said:i just requested a copy of my contract and it says im a production operative and a general supervisor. so my understanding is that my job is both and i can say i dont want to do the general supervisor job any more would anyone agree.

Yes, I'd agree with you - according to your contract your job is to be a production operative and a general supervisor.fletcher1985 said:i just requested a copy of my contract and it says im a production operative and a general supervisor. so my understanding is that my job is both and i can say i dont want to do the general supervisor job any more would anyone agree.

I can even agree you can "say" you don't want to do one of those tasks. But, if you did, you would need to negotiate how - or whether - you could do just one. You don't have the right to stop doing one of the roles simply because you don't want to do it.0
