I'd wait until they've been with the DCA for a while before making CCA requests. They'll need to go to the original creditor for the CCA and the original creditor might be less interested in supplying CCAs for debts they offloaded a while ago.

Am I not best contacting those who have defaulted and with Debt Recovery Companies now?

They will write to you. Sit tight & save what you can into your emergency fund.

Debt collection takes time, defaulting your accounts is only the first step, they may just sit tight and do nothing, or they may engage a collector, they may sell your accounts, the collection process can take a very long time, months, even years, you need a good emergency fund, then say in 6 months ascertain your position, and start paying then if you want to, there is no big rush here.

I am receiving letters and e-mails from a debt collection company for the defaulted accounts. I assumed that i now needed to write to them stating what I can pay per month? (Small payment). Is this wrong?

I am at the same point as you.
I have only heard from westcroft so far but they called me twice a day every day last week and wrote to me once. I didn't answer the calls and don't intend to. But yesterday I just went onto the website and made my first payment. I'm hoping that if I do thst every month for the same amount it keeps things quiet.

No, not wrong at all, but you don`t need to write to anybody, payment plans can be set up online, via the collectors website, they pretty much accept whatever you tend to pay, so there`s no need to get pally with them, or have any other contact with them.

Just make certain you have an emergency fund set up as well.

  • I don't think you should rush to set up payment plans.  I would wait until they have sold the debt on.

Have you built up some emergency savings?
