Have not been to London for donkeys years so have no idea how it works anymore, but we are needing to make a journey from northwick park to wembley park underground and back in one day. What is the best way for us to do this if anyone could make sense of it all for me please? A visitor oyster card seems very expensive to me and when I tried to check the price online it seems its much dearer unless you use contactless or oyster? Plus how does it work with kids? If anyone can help a very frazzled mum, I'd appreciate it x

Think you should be able to buy a One Day Child Travelcard for £7.60 at the station for the 12 yr old as long as you're travelling after 9:30am Mon - Fri or at weekend or public holiday. Pre 9:30am is £10.75.

Use your contactless card for yourself and the 10 year travels free I believe though don't know how they get through the barrier!

Oyster cards have registration fees and photo requirements for the kids so not worth it unless you were going regularly.

I think I've seen mention on a previous thread that you need to go through the wide manned gate rather than the automatic barriers

You're only going 2 stops on the Underground..surely there's a cheaper ticket than the ones already mentioned?

Well that's what I was hoping. On the single fare finder online it says it costs £1.90 each but that only seems to be if you pay by contactless or oyster which is what I don't understand. Does that mean we can't just rock up on the day and buy single fare tickets from a machine and pay by card for that price?

You wouldn't be able to get the £1.90 fare on a paper ticket - only Oyster or contactless.

Do you have more than one contactless payment card?  For a one-off visit to London the simplest option is likely to be for you to use one card to tap in / out and your 12-year-old to use the other card. As mentioned the 10-year-old will be free.

Yes I think that would be the best way to go about it, it seems. Do I have to have any proof of my sons age when I go through the barrier with him in this scenario?

Have you kids experienced the buses ?

Why not tube one way - bus the other Journey results - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

Others will be able to say if you get a good view of the Stadium
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I think it takes at least half an hour on the bus for the same journey so we'd rather avoid the bus in this instance.
