Glassdoor salaries

When people put their base salary into glassdoor, do they include any travel/car/lunch allowances etc into it?  i note glassdoor doesn’t have an option to put any additional allowances in to base pay, other than bonuses and commission.

I don't think it really matters what you put in there

By definition base salary is just that, so doesn't include perks.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

They shouldn't, but the problem with user collected data is they may consider XYZ is part of their base salary or may decide they want to look like a big dog so inflate their salary by 20%

I’d say it’s well inflated due to trying to look good in others eyes.

I’m just trying to see if it’s a good guideline for what salary you should ask for.

It is like anything else - rubbish in rubbish out. If users inflate their salaries with perks, it isn't going to be very reliable re basic salary. It's like house price indices, not to be relied on for an accurate valuation.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

So best to assume it’s inflated then it sounds like.
  • I think it depends on the number of salaries shared and the recency. I’ve experienced both inflated salaries on glass door and also the opposite. It often hard to tell as salaries can be banded so there can be large differences between two people doing the same role.
