Hi
I have been speaking to a neighbour about council tax, I rent a property and it is in band E, i have found out from the landlord that the house was split in to two dwellings in 2013, and they said to two places would still be band E, how can they work it out to be that, so if the landlord would of split it in to 5 place would all five be band E, do you think it is worth challenging them about it, just feel I am being robbed, it would be the same if i built sheds and sold the for a £1000 each, then i cut them in half and still charged £1000 that would not be right, thanks for your help

Have you checked in the Council Tax Valuation List that both dwellings are in Band E and the split for CT purposes actually occurred. Without knowing anything about either dwelling it is impossible to say whether Band E is reasonable. it is possible that either the entry for the previous single dwelling was in fact a higher band or was too low at Band E or there were extensions carried out to facilitate the split.
Does the landlord pay the CT or do you?If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
