I see the deadline has been extended but when I check my record online it still says I must pay by 5th April. Which is right?
And if I pay after April 2023 will the amount owing be increased over the £824 I am currently being quoted per full year? The note against each year says it *might*.

The deadline has been extended to 31st July and the existing prices have been frozen.
They've simply not the time or inclination to make a one-off change to their systems to reflect this,0 -
It says this on my pension forecast for the incomplete years:
You can make up the shortfall
Pay a voluntary contribution of £824.20 by 5 April 2023. This shortfall may increase after 24 April 2023.
Does this mean that the prices are not frozen until 31 July?

As stated in the post above your post everything is shifted to July. They are not going to change a hard coded computer system for a once in a lifetime event.

I don't think people generally realise the hoops that need to be jumped through to make changes like this.
The original deadline was set in legislation.
Unless the process has changed since I worked for the civil service, any changes to gov.uk websites or letters needed to be signed off at ministerial level.
HMRC have issued a press release confirming the extension.
