I have had several emails from these companies offering loans. The spelling and grammar is really poor. There is a helpline which is staffed but they get defensive when you ask if it's a scam. I think it's a scam as you have to pay a one time insurance of £20-25 before they give you the loan apparently.....is this a scam. I get maybe 100 emails a week

I'm going to go with 'yes'.
If you are getting so many unwanted emails from the same source, then you can block them and report them as spam. But before doing so, you could do everyone else a favour and send just one of each of them to the phishing email reporting service, it's easy to do. Just click on 'forward' on the scam email and use the following email address -
report@phishing.gov.uk
Don't phone them any more. If it's a scam, they are unlikely to tell you and they may even be monitoring your phone line. They are very clever, those scammers. Please take care and thank you for reporting scammers. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts.
