Working extra jobs

Options
My line manager agreed in writing to my request for a 2nd job. A few weeks later, I was approached for another different job so a 3rd job. When I asked my manager whether to get confirmation in writing again for approval of 3rd job, my manager told me to just use the 2nd job written approval for the 3rd job. Therefore, verbally I was told to use 2nd job written confirmation.as written confirmation for my 3rd job. My manager simply said in the written confirmation for the 2nd job that she would discuss the extra jobs working at periodic intervals and if it affects my primary job, the agreement could be cancelled.

Have been working the 3rd job for 18 months now (2nd job no longer exists). My manager has never asked about the extra job and my performance at main employer is very good.

My slight concern is in future if there is ever an issue, could they turn round and say you never got permission in writing for 3rd job?

  • I suspect you are overthinking this.

From what you've posted you have got a (written) agreement to allow a second job.

And you have got two jobs.

    (2nd job no longer exists).

Thank you for coming back so quickly.

The written agreement was given for a 2nd job with X employer. When Y employer asked me to do a 2nd job also (equalling 3 jobs in total) I was told to simply use the written agreement provided for X employer  as permission agreed for Y employer.

My concern is as this was verbally said (although I have written confirmation regarding to x employer) should I be worried?

Unless your employment with Y employer would conflict with your main job or would be thought unbecoming or unsuitable for a person in your main job position, I wouldn't worry about it - you are only doing one additional job

If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

    Thanks, no conflicts as such.

I am wondering if they can ever turn around and say your written permission was for employer X and not employer Y.

Also despite my manager saying lets review the working at regular intervals, the manager has never asked so guessing I do not need to prompt this?

You've got income of £100K+ per annum, including £25K from self employment according to your December post: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6408429/self-employed-and-vat#latest

I find it surprising in the extreme that an employer is apparently unconcerned about a high-paid employee having any other jobs, whether self employed or as an employee of another firm, so I'd certainly want everything confirmed in writing to ensure there are no issues further down the line.

As per my previous comment, it is in writing but I was asked to utilise the same writing for employer Y that I was provided for employer X.

As per my previous post, I think you need to get it in writing - and in relation to employer Y. In your shoes I wouldn't be relying on verbal assurances.
