looking for the best place to get 512mb ddr ram for my pc, any recommendation?

For the most highly regarded brands, I'll refer you to this earlier thread. As for where to get the stuff, that's mostly down to personal preference and experience: I've previously bought memory from Crucial and Tekheads.

As said Crucial and Tekheads are good. I buy most of my ram mainly from Crucial though

Crucial is THE best for memory,they garantee it will work with your system if you follow their ordering system thingy.

crucial is great. - often ebuyer is cheaper than the crucial site itself which seems silly.

Elixir ram (I know - not that well known but seems reliable although I'd usually say only buy well known brands) is dirt cheap though if on a budget from aria.co.uk if in manchester there are often vouchers in the metro too and you can go pick it up.
