I am due to retire and stop working and claim the State Pension on the 12th of February next year 2024
I have checked my State Pension details online and have been told that i cannot increase my State Pension anymore after the 5th of April 2023
My question is will i still have to pay NI contributions from the 5th of April 2023 until i retire on the 12th of February 2024 ?

Yes, if you are employed you will have to pay NI until you reach SP age, but contributions made in the tax year you reach that age wont affect your SP.1

So in other words the NI contributions i will pay for over 10 months are just a waste of money on my partLinton said:Yes, if you are employed you will have to pay NI until you reach SP age, but contributions made in the tax year you reach that age wont affect your SP.0 -
That depends on whether you'll need to make use of the NHS at any point in the future or notOuteast1000 said:

You don't have to pay any NI if you really don't want to.Outeast1000 said:

I know i cannot increase my State Pension by one penny after the 5th of April 2023
However ,,,,,, LINTON ,,,,,, says on this thread that i must pay NI contributions until i reach SP age if i am employed
However ,,,,,,, DAZED_AND_COFUSED ,,,,,,, says on this thread that i do not have to pay NI contributions if i do not want to

You definitely don't have to pay NI.Outeast1000 said:I know i cannot increase my State Pension by one penny after the 5th of April 2023

You only have to pay it if you earn enough from a job or self employment.2 -
Both are correct - read it carefully.Outeast1000 said:I know i cannot increase my State Pension by one penny after the 5th of April 2023

They are both right. If you don’t want to pay any NI then don’t earn more than the Primary Threshold (£242 per week in 23/24) from any single employment.Outeast1000 said:I know i cannot increase my State Pension by one penny after the 5th of April 2023
