My mate said he could get me massive discount at his daughter's mattress shop but has now changed his mind. Anyhow, I was looking at therapur actigel 3600 k mattress, £1439, sleppeezee k mattress £1,200 the Reeves mattress £700 all at Dreams. Do I have to pay such a lot? I don' have that much money TBH

Personally, I would never pay more than £500 for a king-size mattress. Have you considered the Premier Inn mattresses (although at £729 that would be outside my ideal budget) ?#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

Hi
IMO, best to get branded stuff for a decent retailerer who has a good exchange policy, may cost a few quid but is a good plan
We changed our main matress last year never went out to try, read all the reviews under the sun, paid close to 1800 and more expennsive other places - did not get o with it annd preferred the old, so we paid a few quid for the exchanged after 2 weeks and paid another hundred as the replacement was 100 more expensive, initially seemed better but several months on it is not as good as our revious one which we have moved to the guest room
Even when you try a mattress as the bed base may be different to your bed and dont have long enough to sleep on, it may not work.
An idea is if you have been to a hotle and liked their bed, find out wht that one was or add a mattress topper and I am thinking about that

I was planning on buying a Mattermoll last year, used on cruise ships and I found incredibly comfy, was £1660 for a double.
But there is only one shop in the UK that sells them, not knowing how they'd be on my bed frame we decided against it.
We found a very reasonable one in NCF living, a lot of their reviews are bad but we had no issues, 9 months on its still incredibly firmMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

Having just bought a new mattress you need to try a lot to decide which you prefer, price is an indicator of design, materials and workmanship, not comfort.
The store we bought from had king size from £300 to £6,000! I tried them at both ends of the cost spectrum and everything in between. It came down to 2 and what we chose was actually the cheapest of the two at £650.
Sales staff advised Premierinn had recently changed supplier from Hypnos to another brand, but she couldn't remember which one, possibly Silentnight.0 -

Travellodge use Sleepezee https://sleepeezee.com/product/the-travelodge-dreamer/
Suspect it's a price / product placement contract worth deal made by these big player chains and bedmakers.
Other hotel chains may not use any single brand in all rooms or hotels. But it can be a good starting point for choosing a mattress if you stay for more than one or two nights.
Hypnos have held Royal Warrants for many years... for whatever that is worth.0 -
Got a Dreams Reeves reduced to £260 from £900 (knew someone), I slept on it for an hour and liked it. Three nights now and good i think. I'll test a bit longer until I'm sure to throw out the old mattress. Had over six years though and always uncomfortable and needed a topper.
Got a rip on underside of mattress, shall i sew a patch on it?
