Late payment before completion

Hello,

I have a ongoing mortgage offer with Skipton and due to complete at the end of this month.

I just been notified on my trans union file that I have a late payment on a newly created account on a water bill that has never been in my name.

I used to previously life with my sister and mum and the water bill was in my sisters name I never opened a water bill. Suffolk and Essex water have never reported to my credit report until now and I’m so confused. They say the accounts been open since 2018 but this is the first time they reported to it.

I’m certain I’ll be able to get this sorted but does anyone know if this will affect my mortgage offer. I’m becoming really worried about this.

do you think Skipton will pull the offer over one late payment if they do a final credit check. Also does anyone who has a mortgage with Skipton know if they done a final credit check with them before completion.

any help will be appreciated.

Hi there, we will not carry out another credit search before completion  unless you need an offer extension. If you need to extend your mortgage offer at all, we will carry out an up to date check and request new documents. Thanks - Skipton

Nice work from Skipton - swift response.

Make sure you have background details on everything that has gone on with this water account - then:

    1. You can help the Lender get comfortable if circumstances do change and a fresh credit score is run.
    2. You can ensure the Water Company remove that late payment from your record.

Looks like you have no immediate  cause for concern, but you do need to get it cleared up if possible.
Debts to utilities like water/electric/gas have joint liability, so it doesn't require your name to be on the bill, you just need to have been living at the address at the time the debt occurred.
So as long as you were no longer living there, in the relevant time period, you should be able to get this removed, but is it possible you were still shown on the electoral register at that address at the time?
