Hopefully someone can help with this!
My son went to University aged 18, but really struggled with his mental health and quit after just 1 term. He spent the next few years living at home and working. It took him about 4 years to develop his confidence enough to apply to go back. Even though he was keen he was still very hesitant and worried about how he would cope so he made the decision to apply for a 1 year Foundation degree. He has done so well and now feels confident to go on and so a full honours degree. He has an unconditional place in his first choice uni - we are all so pleased. But..SFE now say he is not eligible for funding as he can only have funding for his course plus 1 year. Technically they are counting his first year, where he was there for a matter of weeks and his 1 year course. This feels so unfair as he has done everything right to ensure he would be successful - he is devastated now. It doesn't seem fair to discriminate against someone who has done everything he can to make sure he remains well and is successful and was becoming so confident in his area of expertise. I cant understand it - as it is a loan? Any advice please?
