tesco in Oldham had 2 bottles on shelf

    but £16.99 for 70cl i don't think so
True, these whiskeys aren't cheap compared to some, but then they have to be imported from the US so there's shipping costs to consider. If you wanted a cheaper brand of whiskey I'm sure you could find some, but rather than compromise by buying cheaper stuff, I prefer to find my favourite brands for less. Basically, I like the taste of these American whiskeys (among others) and so am happy to get them at the cheapest price I can find, and so far this Tesco price is the cheapest price available to the general public in the UK. If you can find Wild Turkey or JD cheaper then please feel free to let us know :)

Also note that with Wild Turkey having an ABV of 50.5%, you only need a 19.8ml shot to get 1 UK alcoholic unit worth of merriness - so if one of your goals is to get merry on some fine American Bourbon this Christmas (as mine is), whilst still being clever with your money, using this Wild Turkey it'll only cost you 48 pence per unit.

Since JD is 25ml for 1 UK alcoholic unit, to beat that unit price with JD (for instance) you'd need to get your 70cl bottle for less than £13.46 - so really if you do buy JD for £13-14 as you put it, you could give Wild Turkey a try for the same price per unit. :)

And anyone who buys these drinks in pubs would think 48p a shot is a bargain :D

i like jd at christmas but feel guilty paying £13-£14for that!!!
Personally I don't feel guilty for spending money on luxuries as it's mine to spend and if I couldn't afford to at the time (as sometimes happens) then I simply don't. But sure, if buying luxuries doesn't make you feel good, then you're wise to refrain. Otherwise, bring on the expensive liquor! :D

mmm, Gentleman Jack, NICE! I know why that bottle is almost empty. How do I do a smiley licking his lips? :D

I've been getting a head start so my stocks are a little low this christmas LOL. I'd show all my JD bottles but most of them are empty - it's just too damned tasty :D

Where do you get the old 43% ABV JD in the UK now? I'm guessing you just kept it since they used to sell it? :)

Aye, if I remember right all standard old No.7 JD used to be 46%. . . then for a while they sold Black Label at 43% and Green Label at 40% so that it could still be sold in the US States that only allowed liquors of 40% or less, and then they decided it would be cheaper for them if they only had to make one kind, so all JD was sold as 40% but with the black label. So the recipe for "Old No.7" itself is not exactly as it originally was - the water content is higher nowadays sadly. But it's still darn tasty :D
