State Pension query - won't get full pension but I have no NI gaps

    If you care for grandchildren regularly, I believe you can get NI credits for that. Not sure how it works, but if it is relevant, someone here will know.

    If you are caring for a family members child under the age of 12 so that their parent can work, and they are a) claiming child benefit and b) earn enough to get NI credits through employment, then you can apply for the un-needed NI credits associated with the Child Benefit to be transferred to you.

    "I had thought paying NI contributions for 40+ years would mean I would get the full amount of pension available. "  You have, but under the old pension scheme. Nobody can have qualified for the new pension schemes '35 years' as it has only been going since 2016.

    Suspect much of the confuse is around the spin about the headline figure of £185.15 for the NSP, the government needs to be clearer and simpler in its communications

    The spin has been by the press,  .gov is pretty clear
