My ex partner and I have been split up for a few years! I am

If your ex can pass affordability and the credit checks on their own/with a new partner or relative and they are in agreement, it can be done within a month or 2.
If not, then its one of those how long is a piece of string questions.

It's your partner who goes about it in the first instance. Not much for you to do until they get a mortgage offer.

Amendment to existing mortgage; or new sole mortgage to replace the current joint one combined with the legal work which is a transfer of equity which will require solicitor/conveyancer supervision.

Then will I just need to sign paperwork and that’s it?
Sorry I just find this all confusing

Pretty much, yes. You'll be selling your half of the property to your ex.

The thing you need to remember is you don't have to know everything on day one.

As you embark on something like a transfer of equity you will learn as you go along. As many lenders require both parties in a TOE to have legal representation start looking for a solicitor/conveyancer which will also enable you to learn more more about the process.
