Pensions and casual part time work

I have been employed as a casual worker and im not sure if it is worth staying with the pension scheme they have.  I also work in the NHS so pay in to this one and have done for several years.  I don't get much for the casual work it is basic pay, is it worth it or should i opt out?

You get an employer contribution? If so, why lose it?

If it is a typical auto enrolment scheme, then you pay 5% of your wages and the employer 3%. As you will get tax relief on your contribution, it only costs you 4%. So overall 8% is going into the pension pot and it is only costing you 4%.
You may pay some tax when you later take the pension but not that much.
If the employer is adding more than 3% even better.

It will only ever be a small addition to your NHS pension ( which is very good) but could come in handy at some point.

It is always worth puting money into a pension, no matter how "little". You get both tax relief and "free money" from your employee....IMHO!
