Getting State Retirement Pension paid weekly

DWP try to keep it a secret, but you can ask for your State Pension to be paid weekly.

Paul Lewis writes about this at https://www.radiotimesmoney.com/retirement/pension-advice/state-pensions-can-be-paid-every-seven-days-says-paul-lewis/ and advises that you can write “Please pay my pension weekly” in the “other information” box on the Pension Application Form.

However, if you claim your SRP on line at
https://www.gov.uk/get-state-pension there is no way to ask for weekly payments.

I just made an on line claim and followed it up with a phone call to 0800 731 7898 and asked for a note to be made on my claim that I would like to be paid every week.  It sounded like this wouldn't be a problem.

I will get my first payment three weeks earlier by getting it paid weekly, and once it is in payment I will on average have an extra £300 sitting in my account earning interest instead of the Government holding on to it.

The MSE guide states "The state pension is paid into your bank account every four weeks. If you want to request a change to this frequency, you can call 0800 731 0469."

I claimed my State Pension in 2019 and there was a box to tick if you wanted it paid weekly which I did and do get it weekly.

Is that no longer possible on the online form?  I guess I will find out in 18 months when hubby claims his.

No way to ask for weekly if you apply on line. And no mention of it as a possibility on the .gov website or in DWP leaflets.
  • You still don’t have the ability to ask for weekly payments when going through the application process online. However, DWP have only recently set up the new service called “manage your pension online” at www.gov.uk/manage-state-pension.service.gov.uk. Once you register and confirm your identity online (which can be done in minutes) you can change your payments to weekly with the click of a mouse button.

You receive immediate online confirmation with your new payment details. A follow up letter is also sent to your confirmed home address.

So I suppose it’s now half a thumbs up for the DWP.
