Filling gaps from many years ago

I have 33 years of national insurance contributions.  My question is, can I pay for gaps dating back to 1994 when I was living in Italy, and for 1996 when I returned to this country with my son aged 13 and was claiming child benefit.  I have attempted to in the past but informed I could not.

    No.

What exactly does your state pension forecast say?

  • I have started receiving it, I receive gross £8650 per year for 33 years contributions.

How much are you receiving per week ?
When did you reach state pension age ?
What other gaps are showing in your NI record ?

    When did you reach SPA?

How many NI qualifying years pre 6/4/2016?

How many NI years starting 6/4/2016 and up to the tax year before you reached SPA?

  • Reached SPA in May 2021.

Qualifying years up to 6/4/16 were 28.
Qualifying years from 6/4/16 are 5

(1980-96 was in Italy (8 years of which worked for UN) so gaps during those years, returned to uk 96 and looked after my son that year.

Receiving £665.40 every 4 weeks (166.35 per week).  I have 33 years contributions but would really like to be able to pay in another 2 years.

If your only gaps are pre 2006-07 then unfortunately there is nothing you can do to add to the pension.
Your only argument could be if you were claiming child benefit and not receiving credits, that would need to be queried with DWP.  Pre 2010 that would have been up to age 16.
  • Thank you for your advice, I will query with DWP.
