Old Style techniques for dust ?

I have hayfever and my husband seems to have something like asthma (undergoing tests). I know to dust from the top down and we have a HEPA filter Henry vacuum cleaner. I'm asking for air purifier recommendations on another forum.
But are there ways to capture dust rather than spread it around with dusters ? Any remedies that work ?
How did people cope in days of yore ?

Use a damp duster, which will hold the dust rather than waft it around. Just dunk a cloth in to tepid water, wring out well & wipe.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
