Anyone come across any good offers / recommendation ? Also, are Petrol lawnmowers generally heavier than electric. Was thinking about Petrol but not a massive garden and don't want anything too heavy.

I got one from Argos reduced and although it was only £49.99 it is excellent.
Qualcast Easi Trak 320 with 1000W motor, great thing is that even for that price it has 5 year parts and 2 year labour warranty so where's the risk in taking a punt on it.Langers0 -
and it only weighs 7 Kg as is mostly plasticLangers0

Yes, we need a new lawn mower too as Misterholic will insist on cutting through the cables. We need one without cable, such as a petrol mower, but they are all so expensive. He's taking me out to B&Q later where there's also an Argos, so any hints and tips also gratefully received for me!spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0

Forget about cables.Check the oil etc. I got mine 18mths ago from Argos brand new £49.99.Only uses a little unleaded.Garden 50' x 20'.Does the job in no time at tall.Oh one small spark plug to change occassionally.Brilliant and not that bulky either.
I had recently seen one in Homebase for around £80 and with their 10% off days you could get it for £720 -
I bought a new lawn mower a couple of years ago from B&Q. It was the B&D one with swivel wheels etc. Anyway tried it out once on my uneven lawn and it was awful. Took it back to B&Q and said I found it hard to use and they gave me a no quibble refund. Stuck with my hover which as I have a very bad back I find easier to use.

These 2 models are best buys in Which magazine
Qualcast Power Trak 34
Qualcast Power Trak 400
The Qualcast Power Trak 400 (£130) is their Best Buy. It was the best performer, if a little noisy, and ideal for a medium-sized lawn. Worth considering for a small lawn is the smaller and lighter Qualcast Power Trak 34 (£100). I've seen the later one for £80 at currys online0 -
I bought a Mountfield petrol mower from B&Q 12 months ago and although it was great for 12 months (if you ignore the big plastic cover that fell off on day 1) it broke down last week. I wasn't worried because it came with a 2 years warranty (even has a dirty great sticker on the mower to remind me). It seems I should have been..
Anyway, to cut a long story short the engine isn't covered by the 2 year warranty, it only has a 12 month warranty. (isn't it strange how things always break down three days after the warranty expires).
I've had to pay for the parts and fix it myself, I'm serously unimpressed. Imagine buying a car and the manufacturers telling you the engine isn't covered by the same warranty as the rest of it because they use another's engine?? In mountfield's case there's not alot more to a petrol mower than a motor so I think it's really poor show.
Mountfield's were really dismissive about the whole thing so I'd definitely look elsewhere if I could start again..0 -
Hi,
I have been advised to get a cylindrical cutting balde lawnmower as opposed to circular cutting. It gives lawn much better even cutting. Is this true?
If so...what is a decent petrol one. I currently have an old mountfiled which doesn't "suck" up the grass that well.Filiss0 -
Dammit, u just missed the homebase 10% off day, which was yesterday!!
dont worry.....until next time........

Pealy - did you look in detail at the 2 year warranty? Did they even provide you with one? I bet the sticker didn't say that the engine was excluded. I would keep your bills and go and visit Trading Standards as this sounds very misleading. Not much else to go wrong on a lawn mower that they wouldn't say is fair wear and tear after 2 years.
