Prolific is not entirely what I would call a "survey" site.  You are taking part in academic research as a kind of online lab rat.  Might be tasks like looking at photos of people and deciding how criminal they look, or solving puzzles, or learning an alien language.

You sound as though you've had similar surveys to me, apart from I didn't get the musical one as I don't play an instrument

The one where I had to learn the names of objects in an alien language was hilarious as I was playing with a partner and we had to name the objects to each other from a menu of syllables, but in the end we couldn't remember the real names and started just saying "flopa-dopa-dopa" but we still knew what we meant... and still got paid!

Yes I would say you can earn quite well from these sites, I prefer the UX sites rather than traditional surveys, I do very well from intellizoom, userlytics and userbrain, I also use prolific, if you sign up with them take advantage of the 1-2 week honeymoon period as a newbie you'll get lots of studies and then it'll level out a bit, off topic but I've also done quite well selling stuff I don't need anymore on eBay, all of these are simple non-intrusive ways to boost your income.
  • Does anyone know if there are any other academic based survey/research companies like prolific? I'm on the waiting list for prolific. I keep getting thrown out of other survey's after a few questions maybe I'm  boring!

They can be ok but they are time consuming and quite frustrating at times... I was making around £30 a week at one point via swagbooks and Qmee but the fad soon wore off when i was getting kicked off surveys for not been eligle or right at the end and not getting paid. . It also gets quite boring after awhile - especailly the suveys that drag on for a while

Can I just ask if anyone doe GfK surveys? I started but it now appears that you only earn points to enter prize draws and do not earn anything else? Each survey seems to take me around 10 minutes so that's just over an hour a week with no guarantee of earning any vouchers/cash etc at all. Am I missing something? Have lots of people won on their draws? I'm trying to spend my time wisely to build up as much extra income as I can. Thanks

  • I've just signed up to Qmee and I'm finding it very frustrating.  I've been rejected for most of the surveys I've applied for, but a lot of the time I've only found out after I've already started it.  The pay isn't particularly great either.
I've been using Prolific for about 18 months now.  I tend only to do the short surveys and in that time I've earned about £550.  I could earn a lot more if I wanted to though.
  • I've been doing surveys for about 10+ years on top of a full time job. I regularly make £2-300 sometimes more a month. I mainly use LIfepoints, toluna, erewards, y live, new vista, yougov, qmee, ipsos, swagbucks, valued opinions and branded surveys.
