Proof of deposit - how far back?

How far back do you need to go with proof of deposit? I have had all my deposit in my accounts for the last 6 years. Do I really need to go back and prove where I got it from all that time ago? It was, in fact, from a legacy, but how I am supposed to get a confirmation from the executor and the bank statement from so long ago?

I just provide the statement that funds come from savings and investments, the last couple of purchases I have said savings and tax free lump sum from pension. I haven't been asked for any proof other than a bank statement showing the available funds.

Depends on the solicitor, who have to satisfy themselves. We just said savings from regular saving excess salary above expenses and it was accepted.

They wont want 6 years statements. They might want A statement from 6 years ago showing the money hitting the account or a if you still have a document from 6 years ago from the solicitor or even just asking the solicitor for a letter now. It really does depend on the lender and also the conveyancer.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I had kittens over this because I saved up money over a period of 20 years, transferring it from multiple different accounts over the years to get the best savings rate. I pieced things together as best as I could, going back a couple of years. In the end I got the distinct impression my solicitor didn't actually care because they never queried any of it.
