Tesco loan - incompetence

Had a Tesco Loan which due to bereavement I didn't use. I returned the capital along with a letter giving notice within the fourteen-day cooling-off period. However Tesco do not appear to have accepted this cancelletion and are chasing for payment of an installment.
I have written to them three times but they have simple ignored my letters. Where do I go from here?

Did you contact them to settle the account or did you just transfer the money back and send a letter?Do they have the money now and did they acknowledge it in any way?If they haven't allocated the payment to the account, then they will assume it's still due, though I'd have assumed they'd have returned an unidentified payment.
Unfortunately I think your only option is to talk to them. According to Google, their customer support number is 0345 600 6016 which is just a standard rate landline call and would just use your regular mobile phone minutes.

First of all they confirmed receipt of the cheque, then they cashed the cheque, then they sent another letter saying they had not received the cheque! - total incompetence. From my landline 0345 numbers are high-charge numbers, I have been caught by this before. Either way accademic as like I said have spent hours on the phone, they never answer.

Presumably you have proof of them having received your letters as you will have sent them with full tracking.0

0345 numbers cost exactly the same to call as 01 and 02 numbers, who is your landline provider and what are they charging you?2
