If not, than rather the probelm being that car is not taxed it couid be that you were not the registered keeper.Do you have the V5C (logbook), with your name and address? I rather suspect not, or you would have been sent reminders to tax it.
If you haven’t, you need to put that right ASAP.0 -
I bet whoever told you this would not be prepared to put it in writing as it is made up nonsenseCatbells said:I bought a hybrid car 18 months ago. Since then I have had it MOTd but didn't know I had to register it for car tax - even though I don't actually pay any road tax . I've had a scrape and spoke to someone at my insurers who told me any claim would be invalid because it isn't tax registered. Is this right?

Pretty sure I didn't but will check with them. Thanks for flagging that.Brie said:
But are you registered as the keeper with DVLA? If so I wonder why you didn't get a tax renewal reminder.Catbells said:

Of course it still has to be registered for tax: it just happens that the tax rate for that category is zero.
As above, why haven't you received a reminder to tax it, if you are listed as the registered keeper.? Or did you ignore the reminder because the tax due was declared as being £0?
The fine is usually £80 minimum. No free lunch, and no free laptop

TooManyPoints - thanks again. I copied the ombudsman's findings in your post and sent it to my insurers and they are now accepting my claim with no questions asked. Won't have to pay £1500 for repair. But will make a complaint about this.1
