NI contribution shortfall

Good afternoon.
I wonder if you can help me....
My husband is 64 this year but finished work in 2009/10 due to back and knee problems. (He was a general carpenter/builder)
On his NI contributions, it states he has from 2010/11 to date of unpaid NI contributions.
It also states he has 34 qualifying years.
His pension forecast is £185.15 pw.
In light of the current pension situations highlighted my Martin Lewis, do you think it is worth buying more NI or is there a way he is entitled to them being credited to him due to him not working. He did not claim benefits (too proud) and I have supported him financially.
Your comments re this predicament would be much appreciated.

Unless he is claiming benefits he will not get any credits. He needs another 2 years to reach the full pension. Any available post 2016 year will add value. He will be able to buy 2021-22 and 2022-23 from this coming April until April 2024 at £800.80 and £824.20 so not a great increase over the cheapest now and avoiding the chaotic scrabble that is currently happening.
