Have i paid to much tax?

i have been away travelling abroad for a year. I left mid november 2006 and returned ther just over a month ago.

Now i was wondering if i have paid am i entitled to some tax back as i only owrked six months?

i called a few ppl and am not sure how to go about it? i was told to fill in a p85 and p86, then i was told i will not be entitled to anything. different ppl told me different things

i dont want all my tax back (full refund) just if i have ovberpaid in those six months i want that difference back


can anyone help?

    When you left the UK you should have completed a "Leaving the UK form" and handed it in with your P45 from your last job and a refund for 2006-2007 could have been sent to you. You can still do that now.

    On arriving back in the UK you should have completed an "Arrival in the UK form" so that HMRC would be able to account for the gap you left in their records. This also helps when it comes to sorting out the correct tax code for any job you have between your arrival date and the end of the 2007-2008 tax year.

    If you post some figures such as gross taxable pay and tax paid, I'm sure we would be able to work out if you are due any tax back.

    oops dont have that info as my old stuff is stored somewhere i dont have access right now.

    also i dont have any doc stating my tax number as said all those files were put away to store and am not there now. Is there a quick way of getting access to it?
