Council tax backdated due to changed band

Options
Hi all,

I moved out of rented accom in April 2021, at which point the council tax band was a D. Since I have moved out there has been a change in the tax band to E.

I have now received a bill for £270 backdating payment for the increase in the band. The period in question on the bill is 10.04.21 - 08.04.22, yet the bill is dated 13.02.23 (so my presumption is the tax band change is recent).

My question is - can the council back date payments for an increase in a council tax band, and if so, how far can they go back?

Thanks all!

It is the Valuation Office Agency, not the council who set the effective date of a band change. But the council can go back to the effective date. Given the dates you quote, did you move out of the property in April 2022 rather than 2021
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
