That's the link I posted. I would have tested it, but you need to log on to the government gateway and as the allowance does not apply to me, there's no point.
Takes you to the correct place and clicks through to cancelling - not that I got as far as pressing the button :D
From the tax account home page you click "manage your marriage allowance" and you go to the page linked above.

    Many thanks for the replies.

I think I've got to the bottom of this as an unexpected chargeable event gain in in 21/22 took my income over £50k which I think would have automatically cancelled the marriage allowance for that tax yr and I don't think it's been reinstated for this tax year unless my OH reapplys. Hence why we have been unable to cancel something I'm not receiving.
Will get my OH to apply to transfer the allowance for this tax year and to cancel it before the 5th April as we don't need to transfer it for 23/24.

At the risk of opening a can of worms - did you claim top slicing relief on the gain?

HMRC are moving away from paper to online services.

    https://www.gov.uk/lost-national-insurance-number

Ask HMRC for your National Insurance number

If you still cannot find it, you can:

HMRC will post it to you and it will arrive within 15 working days.

HMRC no longer sends out National Insurance cards.

Yes - fully aware of that. Not sure why you have provided that link as the lady has a National Insurance number but none of the criteria (never mind two) required to provide ID to set up a government gateway account.

You need a National Insurance number PLUS two of:

driving license, U.K. passport, P60 or payslip details.

She has not worked in twenty years and never driven a car. HMRC has stated that they can’t help in that instance.
Apply for a provisional licence? £34 if done online. No need to actually learn to drive...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

As you may recall from another post, the interaction of top slicing relief and the withdrawal of the personal allowance is very complicated. I suspect that the same problem arises for the rules on withdrawal of marriage allowance, if the gain unrelieved by top slicing relief takes you into higher rate tax. But it's certainly worth asking the question if OP has unnecessarily paid higher rate tax by not claiming top slicing relief at all.

Yep - that would be one - with one further item required. Obviously she could also apply for a U.K. passport but that makes absolutely no sense as she lives in NI.

I have drafted a letter for HMRC for her with acknowledgment to be sent by email - want 2018/19 to be included and only a few weeks left to include it.

Interesting to see how long it takes.

Yes, received top slicing relief and was charged basic rate tax as expected. However hadn't allowed for the fact that as the gain was in excess of £100k I would lose a chunk of my personal allowance. In retrospect I should have assigned a portion of the bond to my OH, a schoolboy error but heyho you live & learn.

Has anyone managed to cancel the marriage allowance online? I've tried using the above gov.uk link to cancel and it simply takes you through the application process to transfer the allowance and nowhere does it say about cancelling if you have already transferred the allowance?
Sorry to hijack but I have a similar problem with cancelling professional fees I was claiming for. I no longer pay them but have been unable to see how I cancel online.
