I live in the North of Ireland and bank with the Bank of Ireland.
Sometime back I was issued with a new contactless Debit Card. Now I don’t want a contactless card, I believe them to be unsafe. Yes I know the bank will say if there is any fraud we’ll refund the money - I wonder how long and what hoops you have to jump through!
Anyway, can anyone advise me if I can insist on a non Contactless Card or can the bank just say take it or leave it, we only do contactless!  If pushed will they provide a non contactless card?
i appreciate that I can threaten to withdraw my account but for me that’s not really an option.

Just visited there web page where it stated that they where replacing all contact debit cards to contactless.
The information given on site had a date of June 2019 with a limit of £30 but this is badly out of date as the limit is Currently £100
i know some banks let  you set the limit

I have a contactless debit card, and I still put it in the machines at supermarkets and input my pin.   You do not have to use contactless only, you can still just do it the normal way using a pin.

Does not prevent anybody else using it as contactless

Every banking app I have has a 'freeze card' toggle. Using that and only unfreezing when you're using it is way more secure than chip and pin, as it stops online transactions too. Basically, if you're paranoid you want more technology not less.

Perhaps the person does not have a mobile phone. He may be one of the 18% that hasn't.
Mobile phones security updates don't last for the life span of the phone.

Nope, I'm not one of the 18%, I carry some cash but pay for most of my goods by phone, so you could say I'm contactless. However, as far as I know it needs my face in order to activate it. Steal the phone and you'll have a hard time getting in to it
Does anybody here think that the banks are forcing  us to use contactless for our good?

I think the phone and Face Recognition is much safer than tap and pay, but maybe I'm wrong

As regards been worried, I'm not exactly worried, it's just that I want to choose what type of card I use, what type of card I'm happier with, and what type of card I'm safer with

I'm with Nationwide and you can turn the contactless feature off on their debit cards.
Just need to ring them or go into branch.
