Is the Selfridges sale worth it?

Has anyone ever been to the New Year Selfridges sales? I've seen the insane queues in past years and am wondering if those people know something I don't.
So my questions are:
- Is it worth queuing?
- If you don't queue and just pop in during the day is anything left?
- Are things reduced enough to seem within reach of someone who is willing to splurge every now and again on a fab item? Ie. I'll pay 150pounds for a lovely, good quality deisgner bag on sale once a year but would never ever pay 500....
- When does it actually start? January or straight after Xmas?
