credit check for credit meter for electric

We are saving for a mortgage deposit, and keeping an eye on the market for our family home. I have been trying to keep our credit file in a positive state and beleive it is there now.
When we moved into our rented property 3 years ago, it came with a prepayment meter (now pay as you go smart meter). I want to change it to a credit meter, so that we have search for better rates, but I am aware the electricity supplier will do a credit check on us. (EDF).
Is this the type of check that will negatively impact on our credit file?
