in Cutting tax
I work from home on a permanent basis now since the Pandemic , I have claimed a work from home tax allowance up until now, does anyone know if this is still going to carry on for 2023-2024 and years after, as I have just been informed that my tax code has changed so that I will be paying more tax for 2023-2024, but I cannot see anything on the government website for anyone working from home going forward, has this been scrapped, or is it too early for this to appear on the website for the new tax year, I sincerely hope it hasn't been scrapped as its my electricity and gas that I am using because I work from home and with those increasing in price that isn't fair,.

As I understand it you can only claim if you have to work from home, not if you are employed and choose to work from home.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Its pretty clear from the link what applies and what doesn't.
It hasn't been scrapped but it's changed since the pandemic is now over (officially at least).
As regards fairness - is there an argument for your employer to cover this? rather than the government?
we don't know your circumstances but just raising that as the government is only the custodian of tax payers money and it's your employer who should be paying you enough to cover your costs.0 -
If you previously worked at your employers workplace, and your employer has now said that you HAVE to work from home, then you need to be asking your employer to amend your contract of emplyment to reflect this if they haven't done already. As calcotti says, the tax relief is only available if you MUST work from home, not if you choose to.If your expenditure working from home is higher than it was going into the workplace (bearing in mind that the extra you are paying in heating etc may be balanced by what you may be saving in travel costs, clothing costs, lunch costs etc) and your employer is no longer making that workplace available for you to use, then you and your work colleagues really need to be negotiating with your employer for additional expenses or saliary increase to cover the costs - get your union involved if you are in one.0

Has your contract changed?
Has your office shut?
Can you go in? Is it out of choice?
How far away is it?
